Uganda

Uganda, often called the “Pearl of Africa,” welcomed me with its breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and warm hospitality. Over two weeks, I explored its stunning national parks, vibrant cities, and hidden gems. Here’s where I’ve been and what I highly recommend for future travelers.

Kampala – The Lively Capital

I started my journey in Kampala, a bustling city full of energy and culture. I visited the Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO heritage site that holds the history of Buganda’s kings, and explored the Uganda Museum for insight into the country’s past. The city’s street markets and local food stalls were a delight—trying Ugandan Rolex (rolled chapati with eggs) was a must!

Murchison Falls National Park – Raw Beauty

One of my biggest highlights was Murchison Falls National Park, where I witnessed the powerful Murchison Falls as the Nile River squeezed through a narrow gorge. A boat cruise along the river brought me face-to-face with hippos, crocodiles, and stunning birdlife. On a safari, I spotted elephants, giraffes, and lions roaming freely in the savannah.

Kibale National Park – Meeting the Chimps

Tracking chimpanzees in Kibale National Park was an unforgettable experience. I trekked through lush forests, following the sounds of chimps calling to one another. Watching them swing from tree to tree and interact in their natural habitat was mesmerizing. This park is a must for anyone interested in primates and rainforest adventures.

Queen Elizabeth National Park – A Wildlife Haven

At Queen Elizabeth National Park, I took a game drive where I saw tree-climbing lions in Ishasha, a rare sight found only in a few places in the world. The Kazinga Channel boat safari was another highlight, with hippos and buffalo crowding the shores while eagles soared above.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Gorilla Trekking

The ultimate adventure came at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where I embarked on a gorilla trekking expedition. Hiking through the dense forest was tough but rewarding. Finally meeting a gorilla family up close—watching them eat, play, and interact—was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Lake Bunyonyi – A Tranquil Escape

After days of trekking, I relaxed at Lake Bunyonyi, surrounded by rolling hills and peaceful waters. I took a canoe ride across the lake, visited local villages, and enjoyed the serene atmosphere.

Jinja – The Source of the Nile

Before ending my trip, I visited Jinja, where the mighty Nile River begins its journey to Egypt. I braved white-water rafting on the river’s rapids—an adrenaline-pumping experience! The town also offered relaxing spots by the water, perfect for unwinding.
