2023 TRAVELS

The year 2024 has arrived. Here’s my annual round up to prove that you can get a good amount of travel done even with limited days off with a full-time job, reflecting on the year that passed and looking forward to the new year ahead.

Now, i’d like to look back to another amazing year with interesting trips. In november i have reached a milestone of 150 countries !

JANUARY – THAILAND

When you travel as much as I do, people often ask what my favorite country is. My answer is mostly always the same: Thailand.

I’ve lived and worked in the country of smiles from 2004 till 2008.

Since I returned to Belgium , I still follow up the news and stories from Thailand. And in January 2023 i have spent another great trip in Thailand. This time i was not alone but i went with Katia, her introduction to Asia. Here are some impressions. We started in Bangkok, did some hiking in the north, discovered Isaan and explored the beautiful south aswel.

MAYHOLLAND

We are neighbourgs and the province of Zeeland is probably not the first stop on anyone’s trip to the Netherlands, but since it’s close to the Belgium border, for me perfect for a couple of days out.

JULY- KAZACHSTAN

The ninth largest country in the world (it is twice the size of other four former Soviet Central Asian republics put together), Kazakhstan lies at the heart of the Eurasian steppe, at the cross-roads of some of the world’s most ancient civilisations. To its south lie monuments that tell of its long history with the great trading routes of the Silk Road, whilst its northern landscapes offer up vast sweeping steppes that cover one-third of the entire country. One of its most striking natural features, the mountains that run along its southern fringes, offer up a wealth of towering icy peaks, crystal lakes and dense, forested valleys.

SEPTEMBER – FRENCH GUIANA

While French Guiana is an overseas department and region of France, it is located in South America. Limitless forests, endless rivers, and an impressive abundance of wildlife. It’s a paradise for nature lovers. And not only! In fact, French Guiana is well known by space insiders as it’s home to Europe’s spaceport, the CSG (Centre Spatial Guyanais). And travel adventurers will find their joy in exploring the ruins of the prison camps that were active for a century, from 1850 to 1950. It’s a hidden paradise, go and see it by yourself, here are some impressions.

SEPTEMBER – SURINAME

This small but beautiful Caribbean country is located in northern South America, between the countries of Guyana and French Guiana. Situated on the coast, with access to the Atlantic Ocean, Suriname boats beautiful beaches and pristine tropical rainforests. In fact, the country is nearly entirely covered in rain forests. If you’re looking for somewhere different to go on vacation this year, try Suriname! It feels home to me because i can speak Dutch !

SEPTEMBER – GUYANA

AMAZING GUYANA. Truly spectacular my visit to 2 of Guyana’s most famous Waterfalls. First i flew deep into the tropical rainforest, over rivers of different colours and trees to the 226 m high Kaieteur Falls, the highest single-drop waterfalls in the entire world!!!

Guyana, an ex-British colony and a melting pot of Afro-Caribbean, Amerindian, European, Brazilian and Asian influences, is a true wilderness, offering visitors dense tropical forests and spectacular waterfalls as well as authentic cities. And a trip to Guyana is not complete without a visit to the capital “Georgetown

And last but not least, Guyana CARNIVAL ! It was a historic day at as Guyana Amazon Warriors won the 2023 Caribbean Premier League- Time to celebrate this with a real Carnival

NOVEMBER – VENEZUELA

“Country 150” This is Venezuela.

After almost 30 years of exploring the globe i have reached world ‘s highest waterfall. Angel Falls 979 meters!!! A perfect location to celebrate this achievement. After Canaima national park i have visited the capital Caracas and explored the tropical northern coast. With Venezuela i travelled all countries in South-America and Europe aswell.

DECEMBER- CADIZ

Back to Spain. Love this country. Love the food, the weather.

Time to discover Andalucia again. New Year celebration in Cadiz!
