I love Giethoorn: ‘The Venice of Holland”

We are neighbourgs and Amsterdam is probably the first stop on anyone’s trip to the Netherlands—and for good reason. But there is so much more to this small country than its capital city. Think rows of windmills, fields of tulips, and cities bursting with culture and charm.

This picture is taking in the northern province of Friesland. It is now officially known by its Frisian name of Fryslân.As well as Dutch, many of them still speak the Frisian language, which is taught in schools and used on signed place names entering cities, towns and villages. Many street names in the smaller towns are in Frisian and there are radio and TV programs in the language.
